Two leading global news publications Time and the Wall Street Journal have published hard hitting stories about Bali's ailing infrastructure dilemma.

Time in particular whose article "Holidays in Hell - Bali's Ongoing Woes" recounted a skyrocketing destination plagued by gridlock traffic, piled up garbage, rising crime and a virtual free for all in the development arena.

While the Wall Street Journal's "Trouble in Paradise" echoed a similar ethos.

Having spent the last week in Bali, and approximately 50% of my waking hours getting intimate with the interior of a trusty rental car I can indeed sympathize.

Though in all fairness it would be quite easy to substitute the word "Bali" for Phuket, Koh Samui, Boracay, or countess other leisure destination's struggling with similar growing pains.

Perhaps the key underlining theme continues to see overheated economies short cutting private sector development, while government planning for suitable infrastructure lags at the tail end of the great race.

In a nutshell Asia's resort islands seem unwilling passengers in the world of short-term gain for long-term pain.
