The Airports of Thailand (AoT) is looking at options to use extensive land banks and develop more commercial opportunities throughout the country.
Comments in the Bangkok daily The Nation keyed into a vast amount of empty land that could generate revenue along with commercial rental opportunities.
The article examined potential at loss leading airports such as Chiang Rai who have sufficient space for demand generators such as a golf course.
Highlighted was Phuket International Airport which only has an estimated 30% of available terminal space for commercial rental purposes.
In Bangkok the fate of Don Mueang continues to be studied and debated amongst various factions where it will be opened as a second international gateway or be redeveloped for another purpose.
