News out of Singapore on Channel NewsAsia is that Changi's Budget Terminal will be shut down September 25 in order to make space for the development of a new Terminal 4 facility.
Construction of the new full service terminal that will be able to handle annual passenger traffic of 16 million will commence in 2013 and complete by 2017.
Airlines affected by the closure of the Budget Terminal will be Tiger Airways, Cebu Pacific and three other regional carriers.
For Phuket travelers who use the direct Tiger service a shift will be made to Terminal 2.
According to published reports, in 2011 Changi has a capacity of 70 million, while in 2011 46.5 million passengers made their way through the airport.
