The rain clouds burst open in Cherngtalay, as elite military forces closed down the entrance of Laguna for the arrival of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. With flag waving rent a crowd school children lining many of the roads from the airport ,and the sudden manning of checkpoints which had been largely vacant for the past week indeed zero hour has arrived for the Asean Conference.

Plans are afoot for another road closure reportedly about 5 pm this evening for a VIP dinner at Trisara. There remains much speculation on the conferences top billed diplomat sound bit agenda during her visit be it human rights, North Korea, Myanmar or terrorism. For the most part the events today are overshadowing the larger scale event and there seems to be a celebrity driven paparazzi feel in the air.

For Phuket the event to date has come off without a hitch and will no doubt greatly aid the embattled Government of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's public image.

I arrived about the same time from Bangkok and my taxi needed to stop half way near the monument.
I did feel so sorry for the young kids who have been obviously forced to stand in the rain at several spots on the road from the Airport.
Whats the purpose to force kids to do this... the whole atmosphere reminded me on some movie clip i did see about north Korea.
