A feeding frenzy aftershock by a noted Thai fortune teller's prediction of a catastrophic tsunami set to hit Phuket and the south's Andaman coast this Thursday December 30th has hit international and local headlines.

Press outlets are reporting hotel cancellations and both government officials and scientists are providing publicized damage control to try to dispel speculation in what is adding up to a gigantic case of an urban myth run amok.

Thailand's counter culture of fortune teller's or "maw doo" as they are referred to in the local language hold court over the supernatural and looks into the future to foretell of impending fame, disaster or twists of fate..

Tempting fate one can only wonder what happed during the 2004 tsunami when the same soothsayer appears to have been asleep at the wheel or AWOL from heaven's gate.

What was that famous Fleetwood Mac album called? Of course Rumuors…for those of us in Phuket it appears now all we can do is wait and wonder.
