Phuket International Airport's long awaited THB5.7 billion expansion and upgrade program has finally been given the green light with the appointment of a main contractor.
In an announcement to the media the AoT (Airports of Thailand) said the project which will raise the exiting stated capacity from 6.5 to 12.5 million passengers will complete by 2015.
Leading contractor Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction has been selected to carry out the primary works.
Last year total passenger traffic hit the 8.4 million marker and this year is expected to eclipse 9.3 million.
