International passengers for Phuket's airport spiked up 36.58% over the same month last year.
The figure is all the more impressive given that despite the Red Shirt Demonstrations in Bangkok a year ago in May, the month for Phuket was the highest volume for a decade.
Year to date figures for January to May compared to 2010 for overseas passengers to and from the island stands at 28.03% and domestic 6.70%.
Local growth has traded grower given the wider trend of new direct international flights to the island.
