According to global news source AFP the Philippines Tourism Secretary Alberto has hit Phuket as being too commercial and warned leading resort destination Boracay about the perceived evils of overdevelopment.
While the destination according to the government took in 650,000 tourists in 2009, problems of sewage, and too many bars were cited by the head of the nation's tourism body who said "it's so dense." Adding "it's become Phuket."
As brand Thailand continues to reel in image problems after the continuing political saga of the past few years, certainly one could argue that issues of overbuilding, strained infrastructure, waste disposal and pollution are a problem without borders in the current Asian travel boom.
