A Thai senate tourism committee has enlisted the country's Ministry of Culture to assist in accessing the prospects of the historical Sino-Portuguese shophouse district of Phuket Town qualifying for World Heritage status.

Acting both on the premise of cultural and architecture significance the benchmark case for Malacca in Malaysia which is listed with the UN sponsored program is providing fuel to the fire.

An increasing emphasis on restoration and a rise in cultural festivals and activities are highlighting the recognition for one is the island's true treasure troves.
