Indo Passes Law Allowing Foreign Spouses Visas

In a landmark law the Indonesian government passed a new immigration law allowing foreign spouses the right to reside and work in the country.

While permanent visas are available they must report every five years but no fees are charged. This removes the current necessity and expense of renewing documentation each year.

Children of mixed nationality couples (Thai and foreign) holding dual citizenship have been included on humane conditions.

The condition connecting foreign residency and the ability to work in the country is a clear advantage over programs in many other Asian countries including Thailand.

The new bill includes opening up residency visas for investors who have stayed in the country for three years.

Clearly Thailand has some work to do if it intend to remain competitive in attracting overseas investors and those married to Thai's who wish to more easily work.
