A new resort project in on Myanmar's St. Luke's Island in the Andaman Sea with 30 units is being development by The Andaman Club. The company announced last week plans on New Palau Ganchar Beach for the aptly named St. Luke's Beach Club. The southern part of the country holds enormous potential for tourism though has been hampered by political gyrations and international opinion for the past decade.

Another report by Xinhua News Service said that a new airport is being developed Ngwesaung which is the entry point for the counties southern beach resorts and will host flight from Yangoon. The country is targeting 1 million visitors for the year 2009/2010 fiscal year which commences in April. Within the hotel industry the issue of what type of growth will Myanmar experience once there is wider resolution of the current issues remains a widely discussed topic and one that remains speculation for the moment.

hi Bill, This is interesting indeed but what's your view over the tourist developing in such closed country? Who would tey aim to be their target?

Best regards,

MS
Bill Barnett responds:
Mostly adventure seekers who want to be in the early days of tourism, similar to say Vietnam in the 90's, or Bhutan or Laos now, there is always demand for the next great unspoiled destination.
