It's always good to speak to one of our respected journalism sources Alasdair Forbes of the Phuket Observer who has broken a story on new high speed hydrofoil coming to the island. Phuket Adventures with its owner Sakwuth Udomsrisak are investing THB 45 million in the first of three planned hydrofoils which will service Krabi, Phi Phi, Lanta and the Similans.
With a passenger capacity of 135 people, the craft can make the Phi Phi passage in just 40 minutes which is going to create a boom in inter-island travel in Phang Nga bay and beyond. Vessels such as this one are already extremely popular from Hong Kong to mainland China and the Pearl River Delta. Hydrofoils have been a mainstay for years ferrying visitors in huge numbers to Macau.
As Phuket continues to gear up its tourism infrastructure, creating more demand generators and attractions to lure tourists back to the island remains a strong positive.
