It's another red shirt event but this time low cost carrier (LCC) AirAsia is commencing direct flights between Udon Thani and Phuket. Ultimately the airline is increasing its spiders web of interconnectivity between a diverse set of locations in the region including Vietnam, China, Hong Kong and Indonesia.
The budget carrier phenonmen is much more relevant in Asia then in the US or Europe where vast highway and railway access is the easiest and most cost effective means of transport. Whereas in the region AirAsia's 'highway in the sky' strategy is aimed at a growing mass market which requires flying due to a seperation of many countries by stretches of ocean.
