After the recent case of the shakes a number of readers on the site have written in about what is the best resource on the island to tap into in the case of an emergency.
Recalling both 2004 and the recent evacuation alter, neither mobile phone network nor local emergency network is equipped to deal with this.
The best advice I have come across was that of tech guru Woody Leonhard in his Phuket Gazette column this week.
Woody gave a comprehensive update on what was available and concluded that Twitter is the best way to tap into breaking news.
He noted that despite mobile networks being down and local television not reporting on the incident that the Internet remained up and running from ADSL to 3G and fiber optic.
For anyone covering political events and any up to the minute news story, Twitter has become a byline for one up to the second updates.
Of course in the case the internet goes down, best to head for the hills.
