As hoteliers in Phuket continue to complain about the inflow of burgeoning mass market tourists, practically speaking the island is not developing enough quality niche offerings which are aimed at more affluent travelers.

Note to developers, building cookie cutter hotel is not enough.

One leading example of a destination with strong upscale appeal is Ubud in Bali. Here the Yoga Barn is attracting an increasingly influential set of international visitors.

With meditation, and yoga on offer the holistic center is magnetic in its appeal.

The takeaway from all this is there remains a lot of business left on the table for gutsy and innovative entrepreneurs
