For many who conjure up their dream Phuket homes with Thai style designs which combining art and crafts culture and quality workmanship, they are often in for a rude awakening.
In most cases imported labor from agricultural areas in Northern Thailand and nearby Myanmar make even constructing a cement brick a monumental task at times.
Go to Bali and both woodworking and crafts culture are alive at well.
Come to Thailand and it's broadly missing in action?
While the Lanna inspired roof and those beautiful teak houses in Chiang Mai remain highly sought after, one wonders how did those crafts slowly erode?
While technology and urbanization are often the focus of commentators wrath the issue continues to puzzle me.
I'd welcome any enlightenment or thoughtful opinion on how the trend stopped and what drove it onto the endangered species list.
