In an event unrelated to the recent political action in Bangkok local residents and police have reportedly clashed over the shooting of a youth which has resulted in the closure of the coastal road at the Surin Beach intersection for over 24 hours already. This is the 3rd road closure in recent times with the first during an employee dispute at Laguna Phuket and more recently in Kamala again with locals and police in another incident.
Discussions are underway between government officials and locals but its again the tourists who are the economic bread and butter of the island bearing the brunt. As we move into low season certainly continuing events of this nature will continue to only tarnish an already struggling industry.
