The ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting security precautions with checkpoints on the island are creating large scale travel delays. With key checkpoints on Thepkassatri Road and in a radius surrounding the Laguna area, expect long traffic jams. Reports just in from the airport are seeing a large security presence there, so if you are flying out of Phuket International Airport (PIA) allow for ample travel time. Despite the issuance of passes to local residents and workers in the Laguna area, given that all vehicles must pass in single lines virtually everyone is being caught up in the inspection checkpoints.
