The development firm behind Phuket's Boat Lagoon will open their second marina in Krabi this coming November.

A subsidiary company has been set up which is named Krabi Boat Lagoon and the project has obtained approval by Thailand's Board of Investment (BoI).

Located on an 110 rai site in Taling-Chan, the first phase on 42 rai will include 90 berths, 70 hard-stands, workshops and commercial facilities and undercover parking for 6 yachts.

The marina will be able to accommodate watercraft up to 23 meters in length. Next up will be phase 2 which is currently in planning and will house resort homes and a residential development.

Speaking to the Director of Sales and Marketing Sriya Yongsakul today, we learned that berths will be offered initially to existing owners in Phuket and onsite sales office in Krabi will open next month.

She said that the reaction from many Krabi tourism operators has been enthusiastic, especially from nearby Koh Lanta. With the new marina located only 12 minutes from the international airport, the resort island can be reached from the marina in 30 minutes which dramatically improves existing access.

Phuket's neighbor is seeing the rise of their marine and yachting industry with the government sponsored Krabi River Marina located on the Krabi River opening last year and a new development Port Takola in the construction phase.

Other significant demand generators in the pipeline include a new 9 hole golf course near the airport and an international hospital in Krabi Town.

Resort residential real estate looks set to be on the move again after the successful first phase launch of the mixed use Pelican development in Klong Muang launched earlier this year with an offering of condominiums, villas and a hotel.

And making more news is the intended sale of the 160 rai oceanfront core land parcel of what was to be the destination resort The Cove which is being marketed by CBRE Thailand.

With Phuket seeing fully occupied marinas, the opportunity for Krabi to create a larger Greater Phuket synergy for yachting in Phang Nga Bay looks inevitable.

Exciting prospect and I am sure this will benefit Krabi to become a more all year-round destination and also offer more leisure opportunities for visitors and residents! Looking forward to see it! Robert

The Krabi Boat Lagoon website is not very informative at present and needs to be updated soonest please. We need information as to depth of berths at high and low tides, berthing fees and better information on approaches? Only then can we even consider the suitability of berthing there?
Thank you.
