Ban The Thai Airways Spinach Sandwich

I fly Thai. It remains my airline of choice. But recently even I have had enough of the slow and progressive decline of food served to TG passengers.

Clearly we have hit bottom with the trifecta of saran wrapped white bread sandwiches, which include an ominously dark green spinach sandwich.

Even Popeye would opt out of this one. Of course the other two include what I believe to be tuna, but can't confirm or deny this by taste. And the third appears to be some sort of processed meat. What meat? I've got no idea.

But the creature from the black lagoon - that spinach sandwich has to be the singular worst thing Thai has ever come up with. It's like that monster in the movie Alien. Only worse.

Even worse than the mussel omelet served a few years back on Thai Airways.

I urge all insider readers to stand up and be heard. The spinach sandwich has no place on an airplane, not even in the cargo hold. Or in handcarry luggage. Even babies wouldn't eat this slimy concoction.

At the very worst, send all of these sandwiches to the staving people in Sudan. Though I have my doubts if they'd opt out as well. Plus Thai doesn't fly there, so a logistical problem exists.

Given the large number of Iranian tourist terrorists that seem to be roaming the country these days, perhaps they could be armed with spinach sandwiches instead of grenades.

God knows they are just as lethal. The slabs of mush that is.

Perhaps foreign governments should issue travel warnings about eating the green slime on Thai Airways instead of those travel advisories.

In the meantime I am left wondering where the toxic waste dumps are that call home to the cartloads of uneaten soggy Thai spinach sandwiches?

I still fly Thai, but I bring my own sandwich these days from a place called Subway.

The soggy red chicken curry Croissants served on the 0720 am flights for breakfast are also winners, the suntaned hungover tourists heading to Bkk love them

What is even more scary is neither the food nor service have changed in at least 20 years. So Bill's spinach sandwich is a relic from a bygone era, a snack from medieval times when we travellers were grateful for anything at all to eat. Wake up THAI and smell the fresh bread and croissants...

Fully agreed Bill. The standard of food and wine has continually dropped, obviously cost saving measures that the airlines doesnt think people will notice. Check in at Phuket is a nightmare at the moment with only about 5 checkin counters open, one business class and queues of up to one hour common. The other one I dont understand is that when they have flights with AV available, such as on the 747, A330 or B777 on domestic flights or short international flights they have the entertainment turned off. If Thai wants to be a full service airline then surely entertainment should be part of the offering.
Lets hope that some foreign airlines are allowed access to shake up the service provided.

Yeah, I remember the food on PG was quite nice. I had an Asian option. I stil think food on Thai is very good and I also opt the Thai choice. Make sure you ask for fish sauce of chilli sauce as they make the meal much more complete. Oh and TG serves hot bread in Economy that you can't really find on other airlines...

Note to self; no green sandwiches next time Bill visits.

I actually quite like that sandwich served in the lounge. I think it tastes good. Maybe they serve this on a domestic flight? I still find food on international flight one of the best on Economy Class among many airlines.

We've offered to get them great sandwiches. Or cookies. No response as yet, but I remain hopeful.

Prefer Bangkok Airways myself. Not going to win any awards for culinary experience, but a little more on the edible side.
