Back of the success of their Hong Kong - Bangkok flights launched last year, AirAsia has announced direct Phuket -Hong Kong flights commencing in June. Currently Dragon Air is servicing the route while Thai Airways is pushing most of their traffic through its Bangkok hub with only one Hong Kong - Phuket flight on a periodic basis.
Despite the global downturn, a number of LCC's (low cost airline carriers) such as Tiger Air, Jet Star and AirAsia are continuing to expand their networks. Regional access is key for Phuket's low season tourism as Hong Kong and Singapore are key markets.
