Drivers into Laguna have been asking about the site development activity at The Explorer Phuket project in Cherngtalay. We spoke to the developer who updated us that the first phase of the project, 29 commercial shop house units which are now priced at THB 15 million are nearly sold out. Only 3 units remain. Construction is expected to commence within this year.
For the next phases of pool villa and condominiums, these are still in the design and pricing phase. While there has been some speculation about a hotel within the development, there are no plans at the present.

Only more shop houses? If yes, then that very disappointing.
Bill Barnett responds:
From our view of the master plan both last year and now it remains the same - shop houses that will be used most likely for retail, condos and then a final phase of residential units. It would be highly unlikely that Cherngtalay would have the catchment of footfall by the popoulation to make a large mall feasible. Given the redevelopment of Lotus Express this is expanding and there remains hope of a Villa Market in the future.
Bill Barnett responds:
There are shop houses in phase 1 which will act as the retail component for the project. Later stages are a condo and then villas. It had been reported a hotel was coming up at the site but from our disucssions with the developer there are no plans at present for this.
