One of the most amazing statistics we have run across is the forecast that there will be three budget hotels opened each and every day in the mainland China market.
A new shift from primary to second tier and third tier cities is pushing hotel development on the lowest chain tier at an astronomical pace.
While at the same time a reshuffle and strong brand penetration in major cities such as Shanghai and Beijing is seeing some global chains introduce China specific brands.
Local industry giant Jin Jiang who tied up with US Interstate Hotel and Resorts last year is rolling out new entries J-hotel, and Marvel. The group which operates over 650 properties recently announced a tie up with Sol Melia from Spain aimed mainly at cross sales and marketing, guest loyalty programs and development synergies.
Shangri-La recently added a new five star Kerry Hotels brand. New World is rapidly expanding lower tier pentahotels.
Now InterContinental is a new upper midscale brand positioned above Crowne Plaza before year end.
China remains the world's fastest moving hospitality market so don't blink as the stage is rapidly changing day by day.
