Two of the island's long established hotels, the Thavorn Palm Beach Resort in Karon and Nakalay's Thavorn Beach Village are in the midst of a THB500 million renovation program.
Set to complete before the coming high season the Karon property will see all 209 rooms updated, while the northern resort will have the existing bungalows retrofitted into upscale premium villas.
Phuket is currently seeing continued growth in tourism numbers and forecasts for the coming peak trading period are showing strong demand for the destination.

While John Hardy and his Ubud Green School and Green Village have been at the groundswell of sustainable building materials, the area has sprouted other pioneering initiatives.
While we hope for the best that Phuket's new airport expansion will have some green focus, it's encouraging to view Singapore's Changi as setting a global standard.
