Studying the travel habits of hotel guest's remains both a defined science and also at times a mixture of whimsical guesswork. While there is no battle of the sexes in the quest for a good nights sleep, men and women view and use hotel rooms in very much different ways. Traditionally men walk into a hotel room and turn on the television while woman head to the bathroom to check out the lay of the land.
As we move into tech 2.0 we see the television fading in popularity and for many travelers the first and foremost priority is to 'get connected' be it wifi, LAN web connections, or plugging in mobile phones or charging those iPods. It's often said if you want to look to the future and see how kids now act, using 2 or 3 mobile devices simultaneously.
For hotels used to providing a bland offering of limited TV channels, and pay movies demand is now shifting to adapting to the connected world. For men today they require a clean working desk with chair on rollers versus those upholstered chairs that looked nicer then when you sat on one for a few hours. Woman on the other hand often voice opinions that that don't use working tables but take the laptop bed and work with a service so fluffy pillows supporting them.
All this adds up is that some radical changes are going to be taking place in tomorrow's hotel room, while for existing products the ability to adapt into this universe that often relies more on intuitive products versus those funky old school bedside panels, remember those? What's in the works is some major transformations on how we will be traveling in the coming years.
