The joint venture deal between Thailand's boutique resort chain Soneva and Aitkin Spence in Sri Lanka is dead in the water.
While the deal which included branded million dollar hotel villas in Ahungalla was first initiated under Six Senses, after last year's purchase by Pegasus Capital, Sonu Shivdasani carved this out of the purchase and retained it under fledgling Soneva.
Now TTG Asia has reported that the deal is dead and that Aitkin Spence are now speaking to other international groups.
Though post-war Sri Lanka has gained a large amount of global press, the inability of local developers to put equity into hotel deals has hampered the hospitality pipeline.
