Bet this one caught your eye. The first full size golf course in the island nation of the Maldives has opened at Shangri-La's Villingili.

Set on seven and a half hectares the nine whole course features mainly Par 3 holes with an average length of 123.4 yards.

Given the recent spate of political problems that have highlighted a government spa ban and pressure by local groups on alcohol use , a possible repositioning of the destination into the golf segment remains a bit fanciful.

With all that water in the Maldives, no doubt sales of golf balls will be a major source of revenue for the Shangri-La.
