One for Thailand's most respected hotel brands Dusit has established a joint venture with leading firm Bird Group to develop and brand 5 hotels in India. Property locations include prominent destinations New Delhi, Jaipur and Goa.
Given the current rise in airlift between the two countries, and continued Thai - Indian tourism it's a natural for the brand to grow what continues to be an under supplied hotel market. The company will initially target its legacy brand Dusit and newly launched Devarana and D2 offerings.
The Indian sub-continent does have a chequered history in terms of international brands going into joint ventures and there have been far more failures then success stories to date. There continues to be mixed views with chains expanding in the market with some viewing quick expansion with a single partner to penetrate as many locations as possible while others have taken a more pragmatic view. The results are still out so it will be interesting to check with on this story next year when the first hotel is set to open.
