A report in the Jakarta Post has highlighted concerns by Bali's tourism industry over the uncontrolled sprawl of new hotel development.

While the provincial governor issued a moratorium on new hotels being planned on the southern part of the island, there has been no abatement to new projects going into the ground.

In what was envisaged to more evenly distribute development to other parts of the island in the north, south and west.

Traffic, water, garbage disposal and crime are all key issues the overflowing tourist areas are no facing.

Both the Bali Hotels Association and Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association have expressed concern over the long term negative impact on room rates and reduction in average length of stay as more low end visitors are targeted.

If it all sounds familiar to us here in Phuket, perhaps it's because we are in exactly the same situation. Two resort islands -similar problems.
