Last week I was at the Economy Hotels World Asia 2012 conference in Singapore. Without a doubt the low-cost sector is one of the most exciting and dynamic tiers in the industry at present.
While big players such as ACCOR's ibis and InterContinental's Holiday Inn Express are rampaging though the region as series of new players are gaining tremendous footholds.
From the budget Tune, Indonesia's Pop!, Amaris and Fave Hotels, to China's Home Inn's this is where the action is. The UK's Premier Inn brand was on hand to talk about a move to Asia along with design darling Yotel who just might be coming soon to Singapore.
Locally we are hearing a groundswell of activity over the rollout of one of Thailand's largest hospitality groups Centara Hotels and Resorts about a soon to launch budget brand. No name has been announced yet but the chain is scaling up development infrastructure to move into the sector quickly.
