Centara Expanding To Mauritius

A broad expansion drive has resulted in Thailand's Centara hospitality group entering into a management agreement for a new luxury 75 key property in the resort destination Mauritius.

The mixed use Azuri property includes the hotel and also additional residences which will potentially fall under a pooled rental arrangement with the hotel developer.

As some larger international hotel chains are shying away from hospitality led residential, other brands intent to fast tracking development are open to hybrid operating schemes.

An increasing number of property development looks to hotel chains to provider a 'bigger picture' incentive for potential unit buyers.

Mauritius which is located in the Indian Ocean continues to be a large draw for visitors from South Asia.

Azuri is working under the IRS program (integrated resort scheme) which offers residence incentives under the Mauritius government for the duration of the property ownership.

It is remarkable that the High end property in Mauritius is showing such resilience, although the volumes are small it is very encouraging. The government has embarked on a huge infrastructure upgrade, this will naturally payoff when global conditions improve.
