As reported in the Bangkok press Bill Heinecke's Minor Group and its luxury management arm Anantara have delayed a hotel project in Phang Nga provinces tourism hub Khao Lak. The past few years had seen a resurgance in the areas post tsunami hotel market which has international brands such as Le Meriden and Ramada along with the high profile boutique resort Sarojin. A number of overseas investors had been targeting the area such as the Lewis Family Trust's acquisition of Similana which has been planned for redevelopment as a luxury property, and the owner of a Ko Lanta up market property who had purchased a large land parcel for an upscale hotel.
The Minor group opened the 5 star Anantara Phuket Resort late last year near its existing JW Marriott Resort and aside from its asset portfolio which includes holdings in three Four Season's Hotels in Thailand, Marriott's in key markets and their own in house management brand Anantara; and currently constructing The St. Regis Bangkok. The Anantara brand will for the moment look to concentrate mainly on expansion through management agreements both here and abroad.

Bill Barnett responds:
Currently the sales office has been closed and the agency responsible for selling of the units is currently on hold. Given the current economic climate certainly a project of this scale is challenging and the Indonesian owners of the project have remained tight lipped about when full scale construction will recommence, or residential sales be restarted.
