Hawaii's Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Group have announced the appointment of Michael Cowan in the role of Vice President Operations and Projects, Asia. Michael is a long time Phuket resident and was formerly a Director with C9 Hotelworks, with prior roles at global hotel chains Banyan Tree, Hyatt and Ramada.

Last year the Outrigger Group headquartered its Asian operation in Phuket led by Darren Edmonstone who is Senior Vice President, Asia. Currently the group has opened its first Asian property in Bali, with the Outrigger Serenity Terraces Resort Phuket set to start taking guest in April of this year. Projects under development include a second property on the island at West Sands, an additional hotel in Bali and the third in Sanya on China's Hainan Island.

While the Hawaiian Group is a significant hospitality leader within its geographic region, it has recognized the growing opportunities within Thailand and Asia's other resort markets and has made a significant investment towards expanding the brand in the region.

Congratulations Michael. I'm pleased to have a leading brand name have a poised and knowledgeable VP on the ground contributing to Phuket's international destination status.
