A new program by Thailand's Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency or DEDE is offering financial lending for green buildings. New guidelines which come into effect in 2010 will place amended conservation guidelines on new build and renovated buildings in the country with the aim of reducing energy consumption including air conditioning, lighting and hot water.
Applicable buildings include commercial, retail, hotels, condos, hospitals and schools. An Energy Conservation Fund is being set up for financial assistance to building developers. It's been reported that 20% of the countries electrical power is consumed by large building which is one of the primary targets of the new regulation.
