Emerging Starwood hotel brand Element has reinforced its initiative to obtain the environmental certification LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for its expanding network of properties. Under the program launched by the U.S. Green Building Council who initiated the Green Building Rating System, and offering a LEED certification program back of a professional examination process.
Element has used a wide range of initiative ranging from ambient lights with energy efficient bulbs, low flow water showers aimed to reduce wastage and the installation of energy efficient appliances. Hotels continue to be high consumption models with the two highest recurring expense items being staffing and energy costs.
