Despite continued efforts around the globe aimed at finding environmentally friendly sources of alternative energy, the emergence of local solar farms is proving a rocky road. Turn back the clock a few years and over half of the world's solar power facilities were built in the sun swept European country.

An ensuing building boom which created oversupply, poor standard and a growing number with no chance of financial viability. Timing was also a favor due to the parallel GFC impact.

While many of these new solar farms had offered rural communities light at the end of the tunnel, there now looks to be a culling of the herd as it were.

Long term solar is one of the brightest hopes for sustainable green living, but product costs and technology are still finding their way to add scale into a long term working mode.
