First US State To Adopt Plastic Bag Surcharge
America is finally catching up with the rest of the world with the Washington D. C (District of Columbia) imposing a 5 cent surcharge on plastic and paper bags. Back of the Anacostia River Cleanup and Protection Act grocery and convenience stores, restaurants, food vendors and other shops are covered.
Fees raised will go towards environmental clean up programs. DC is joining the sustainability crowd which last year saw Hong Kong implement a similar program and Phuket set to launch in February
