A China based project in Hunan Province called Meixi Lake is gaining global attention as a master planned eco city.
With completion set for 2020, the city will eventually host a population of 180,000.
Noted master planning firm Kohn Pederson Fox (KPF) have been enlisted to provide a sustainable footprint.
One key part of the infrastructure is a 40 hectare lake which is fed by rainwater filtered through urban high rise buildings.
The project has taken on environmental engineering, green areas, pedestrian friendly transportation links and a holistic approach to design.
Thailand has yet to wake up to the issue of such large scale forward looking mega project and stands to lose out in the global green race.
